Extreme Domain Warfare (XDW) analyzes the evolving security landscape where governments, militaries, and defense technology companies confront emerging threats in the world's most challenging environments — the Arctic and seabed domains. As climate change opens new operational theaters and advancements in autonomous systems enable operations in harsher physical environments, this publication examines warfare in extreme environments as well as relevant advancements in military AI and autonomous technologies. Drawing on geopolitical analysis, defense intelligence, and industry developments, XDW provides strategic insights into how military competition is expanding beyond traditional battlefields into the arctic, the seabed, and other harsh frontiers where environmental extremes meet warfare and technological innovation.

XDW is authored and edited by Mingi Hyun, the founder and managing director of Polemos Advisors, a boutique defense consultancy based in New Jersey USA. In parallel, he also serves as a Distinguished Research Fellow at the Yokosuka Council on Asia-Pacific Studies (YCAPS) and has published and taught extensively on international security and military history. Mingi holds MA and BA (Hons) degrees from the Department of War Studies, King's College London.
